Hondel Lighting manufactured and installed a stunning media facade for the Bentley showroom in Abu Dhabi. The facade is made up of thousands of tiny LED lights that can be programmed to display a variety of colors, patterns, and animations. Bentley Motors is the most sought after luxury car brand in the world. The company’s headquarters in Crewe is home to all of its operations including design, R&D, engineering and production of the company’s four model lines, Continental, Flying Spur, Bentayga and Mulsanne. The combination of fine craftsmanship, using skills that have been handed down through generations, alongside engineering expertise and cutting-edge technology is unique to UK luxury car brands such as Bentley. It is also an example of high-value British manufacturing at its best.
Project Goals:
■ A dazzling landmark for the Bentley brand in Abu Dhabi.
■ Achieve invisible dots and shadows for a seamless display.
The project presented several challenges:
Eliminating Dot and Shadow Visibility: Ensuring uniform illumination with- out visible dots or shadows on the diamond-shaped glass panels.
Individual Panel Control: Providing individual driver units for each panel to guarantee independent operation in case of future malfunctions.
Limited Cable Access: Accommodating the extensive cabling needs (around 300 CAT6 and power cables) within the restricted access of a renovation proj- ect.
To overcome these challenges, we implemented a meticulous approach:
Detailed Planning: We created comprehensive drawings with unique panel identification for a smooth installation process.
Precision Fabrication: Diamond-shaped panels were fabricated in China with pixel dots installed at a specific 50mm pitch.
Shadow-Free Design: We collaborated with the facade contractor to ensure a 100mm gap between the aluminum panel and glass, eliminating anyshadow gaps.
Modular Driver System: Each panel housed a dedicated driver unit with a male-female connector for easy access and replacement in case of damage.
Pre-Assembled and Labeled: All pixel dots were installed and labeled with unique codes in our factory before shipment to the UAE.
Centralized Control Software: A user-friendly software system was imple- mented to control the entire media facade, allowing for content display based on client requirements.
The final outcome exceeded expectations. The Bentley showroom facade was transformed into a dazzling media wall, showcasing the brand’s luxury image in a captivating way. The project’s success stemmed from our meticulous planning, innovative solutions, and close collaboration with the facade contractor. The client was thrilled with the result, solidifying the showroom as a landmark destination.
